Past Members
Founding Members
The Founding Members were compiled from the AAA Membership List for 1936, the List of Participating Artists for the first American Abstract Artists exhibition at Squibb Gallery in 1937, and a New York Times review of that exhibit. The two Lists contains 39 names and all 39 founders appear in each list. The New York Times review states 39 American Abstract Artists participated in the exhibition and the review includes all 39 names.

Corrections
John Ferren has been previously listed as an AAA member on this website and in some early AAA literature. While John Ferren exhibited with founding members George L. K. Morris and Charles G. Shaw (along with Alexander Calder and Charles Biederman) in the Five Contemporary American Concretionists exhibition at the Paul Reinhardt Gallery, New York, in 1936, and he is often mistakenly listed as a member of the group, he never joined the American Abstract Artists.
